Unlock/debrand Samsung U900 (soul)

Ok this is how to debrand and unlock the Samsung U900 or “Soul” as it is dubbed.

Note that I accept no responsibility for your shiny mobile phone if it goes ‘Pear Shaped as it were.’

THIS HAS BEEN TESTED AND IS FULLY WORKING WITH VODAFONE, O2 AND ORANGE (ALL UK)

Right first things first, you will need:

1: A nice Samsung U900
2: The USB data link cable that comes with the phone
3: The CD thats comes with the phone (for the USB drivers)
4: A windows computer. (I have a mac but i did it using a virtual machine).
5: U900 firmware and multi loader v5.33 from here
6: PATIENCE!

THE GUIDE:

1: Install the USB drivers from the CD.

2: Extract the firmware.

3: Remove the battery and simcard from your phone.

4: While holding the “9” key, plug in the USB cable then the battery and then (still holding the “9” key) turn the phone on. This will take it into the correct mode. (The ‘touchpad’ will light up).

5: Load up the multi loader v5.33 program. (It will recognise your phone).

6: Select the third option button (The one that says “MSM6245/MSM6260 etc...”)

7: Tick Boot Change then click the “Boot” button and select the bootfiles which are inside the folder containing the flash files, for example c:\U900XXHC6\BOOTFILES.

8: Click the Port Search button so that the connected COM port is shown as Ready.

9: Click the download button.

OK, nearly there. At this point it will look like your phone is trashed, do not worry young children, all will be revealed.....

10: Remove the USB cable and battery.

11: Reconnect again as in step 4. (It WILL say “Download”, if it says “Upload to PC” then you have not connected the phone properly and will get an error, note also the touchpad will NOT light up this time).

12: On the multi loader window click the same MSM button as before but this time select “Full Download” (NOT BOOT).

13: Click the Modem, Rsrc1, Rsrc2 and Factory FS buttons and select the appropriate files. Select (Low).r2c rather than (Mid).r2c. FOTA and ETC fields will be empty.

14: Again select the “Port Search” then “Download” and the rest is history

LG Shine Ke970

I was screwing around on the net looking for the same answer, I downloaded calculators and tried codes for about 2 hours, none of it worked. Then I came across the default for the security code which is "0000". I thought "what the hell", gave it a try and it unlocked. So.. here it is with absolute no guarantee.

Using a working sim card, type in 2945#*9701# (this brings up the unlock sim option)
then type in 0000 or 000000 followed by enter or #

When I did this it still came up with "wrong code entered" but when I turned it back on and tried the 2945#*9701# code again it said "Sim lock not activated" so I swapped over my sims and, "hey presto!" works fine.

Also, this may be irrelevant but I restored the factory default before doing this (one of the many things suggested on the net to unlock this phone.) if it doesn't work maybe try 'factory default reset' first then these codes again. Here's how you do that;

Factory reset
enter 2945#*#
then factory default

Technical Phone Support

Technical Difficulties
#
Step 1

If the phone doesn't turn on, make sure battery is charged and fully plugged into phone. Remove battery from phone and use rag to brush away dirt that may interfere with connection. Reconnect and try again. If using cigarette-lighter adapter, make sure it's properly plugged in. Make sure charger is properly plugged into outlet and into battery.
#
Step 2

When the battery doesn't charge, plug lamp or other electrical device into outlet to verify that outlet works. Borrow friend's charger to see if charger or battery is problem. Replace charger or battery if necessary.
#
Step 3

In case the phone gets wet, remove the battery from the phone and allow both to dry thoroughly. If rust or corrosion develops, wipe it off with a stiff brush. If phone still does not work, replace it.
#
Step 4

Should the display not be working, try getting it to room temperature, extremely cold or warm conditions may affect display functions.
#
Step 5

If the keys don't work, look for a display of a symbol that looks like a lock. The keypad may be locked. The display often tells you how to unlock it. If not, check owner's manual.
Problems While Talking
#
Step 1

During times of bad reception, make sure antenna is up, check to see if the battery is low. If you're indoors, move toward window or go outside to get better reception. Remember that tunnels, basements and elevators interfere with cellphone reception. In case of storm, wait for it to subside. Contact your service provider if you have chronic static; phone may be defective.
#
Step 2

If you can't hear the other person, make sure the volume is not turned down entirely.
#
Step 3

Check that antenna is up if you get interference from another call. Change locations for better reception or switch to a digital phone.
#
Step 4

When you experience many dropped calls, check the battery. It may be low. If you constantly lose calls, consider switching to provider with better coverage and/or to digital phone. Providers that offer digital service combined with analog tend to have better coverage.

Improve Cell Phone Reception

I have a Samsung GSM mobile phone SG R220. It has been working fine for last 6 years. Last 3-4 days I was unable to get any signal on the phone. I checked that the SIM card is working by using it on another phone and also verified that there is proper reception in my area. So I rightly suspected that the problem was with the phone itself. I visited the Samsung service center only to be told that they will change the battery (which is also the back cover) which will "probably" improve the performance. I grew suspicious because there was nothing wrong with the battery, it has been working fine for last 6 years. The battery worked without any issues even after being inactive and without charge for over a year! So I decided to hack my cell phone.

I had the required screw-driver (special ones) to pry open the phone. But before starting I wanted to clean the contacts of the antenna. So I took the connecting pin of my multimeter connector (even a regular safety-pin will do fine) and started scratching the base of the antenna. In Calcutta nowadays it is very hot and humid, so I suspected that it could be damp related problem. Immediately the signal strength increased by 3-4 bars and went near its maximum from zero previously. So I went for more scratching. And surprisingly enough my cell-phone now has better reception than ever before. All it needed was some scratching behind the ears .. err in the hole where the antenna is lodged. While I am not sure if the same trick will work with every cell phone, especially the ones with hidden antennas, I think it is worth the effort to clean the antenna and its base as far as it is accessible for better reception.
